The Inaugration Of The Indo German Computer Center at IIT Delhi

The inauguration of the INDO-GERMAN MAX PLANCK CENTER ON COMPUTER SCIENCE (IMPECS) took place at the Indian Institute Of Technology, DELHI on Wednesday by Mr. Prithviraj Chavan (Minister of Science and Technology) along with Mr. Horst Koehler (President of the Federal Republic of Germany). The IMPECS will be involved in the synergic research program between the Indian and the German scientists and will serve as a link between the scientific communities from both the areas. IMPECS will work as a means of eminence for both the faculty and the students. The Guest of Honor for the function were Dr. T Ramasami, Secretary ( Department of Science and Technology) ,Prof. Surendra Prasad, Director( Indian Institute Of Technology) and Prof. Peter Gruss ,President Max Planck Society.
The Research areas that will be considered under this Indo-German project would be networking, graphics and vision, algorithms and complexity and database and information retrieval. Not only this but it will also involve various other researchers from other colleges like IIT-Bombay, IIT- Kanpur and IIT- Madras from India and from Germany the institute will be Max Planck Institute of Informatics (MP-INF).
This collaboration will prove to be an asset to the countries as Indian researchers will be able to develop better skills and expertise that is necessary for the academia and the German researchers would benefit from the young talent available. The entire program took an initial time of 5 years and the Indian Government contributed 12 crores and the German Government gave 2 million Euros.
This entire concept was planned when the German Chancellor visited India in Oct 2007.
