Syllabus of the KEAM Examination

The syllabus for the Kerala Common Entrance Examinations or Kerala CEE are equivalent to Class XI and Class XII. The detailed syllabus of each subject is available in the exam prospectus.
KEAM is highly competitive and hence, students applied questions of higher order on the given topics are also thrown in occasionally to skim the cream from the applicants.

Duration of the Kerala Common Entrance Examinations
Each paper is of two and a half hour duration. Roughly, students get about 1 minute 15 seconds to solve each question.

Test Structure of the KEAM Exam
Each paper in the exam has 120 questions. The questions of the exam are objective type with multiple choices. Students have to select the correct answer out of five given options.

Scoring and Grading of KEAM Exams
KEAM has negative marking. Four marks are awarded for each question whereas one mark is deducted for each incorrect answer. More than one response to a question is treated as an incorrect response and one mark is deducted for it.
However, no marks are deducted for questions that have not been answered. So, it is advisable to indicate responses to only those questions that you know well to avoid deductions.


Where are exams held?
KEAM examinations are held at the selected venues in all the districts of the state of Kerala. There are designated examination centers at New Delhi and Dubai too.

KEAM Exam Fees
Application for KEAM 2009 is available for Rs 700/- for general category students and Rs 350/- for SC/ST candidates.
Reservation of Seats for Different Courses

Seats in government, government-aided and Kerala Agricultural University colleges are reserved in the following manner:

    * Some MBBS and BDS seats are reserved for All India Quota that are allotted to students on the basis of the All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Examination conducted by the CBSE.
    * The Government of India, Union Territories or other States nominate certain candidates for nominee seats in various courses. These candidates do not need to appear for the entrance examinations.
    * 3% seats are reserved for candidates with disabilities and are rewarded on the basis of the state entrance rank lists.
    * One seat in Agricultural and Veterinary courses is reserved for Anglo Indian or Jewish Community while one is reserved for son/daughter of freedom fighters.

 
Remaining seats are allotted as follows:

   1. Ezhava (EZ) - 9%
   2. Muslim (MU) - 8%
   3. Other Backward Hindu (BH) - 5%
   4. Latin Catholic Other than Anglo Indian (LC) - 2%
   5. Other Backward Christian (BX) - 1%
   6. Kudumbi (KU) - 1%

Seats for Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes are distributed as follows:

         1. Scheduled Castes (SC) - 8%
         2. Scheduled Tribes (ST) - 2%
