The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are the most prestigious engineering colleges in India. To get into one of these institutes, students must clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced. The JEE Advanced is considered to be one of the toughest exams in the world and only the top 2% of candidates who appear for the JEE Main are eligible to take this exam.
The selection procedure for JEE Advanced 2022 is as follows:
JEE Main 2022 Session 1 exams were conducted from June 23 to 29, 2022 in 501 cities across India and 22 ities outside India. JEE Main 2022 Session 1 exams were conducted from July 25 to 30, 2022 in 500 cities across India and 17 cities outside India. Its result was declared on July 11, 2022.

For JEE Advanced 2022, the cut-off JEE Main 2022 percentiles to be eligible for the JEE Advanced exam have not been declared yet. But experts say that it is expected to be in the range of:
The JEE Advanced is a three-hour long exam that consists of two objective-type papers:
Candidates must attempt both papers to be considered for the final merit list. The JEE Advanced question papers will consist of questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Candidates will have to mark their responses on an Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet.
The JEE Advanced 2022 exam will be conducted on August 28, 2022, in two shifts:
The final merit list for JEE Advanced will be prepared on the basis of the candidate’s score in Paper 1 and Paper 2. Candidates must score a minimum of 10% marks in each subject and 35% marks overall to be considered for the merit list.
The counseling procedure for JEE Advanced is conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). While JEE Main leads to admission in NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, JEE Advanced is the gateway for admission into the IITs.
JoSAA counseling is conducted in seven rounds and the seat allocation is done on a merit-cum-preference basis. The counseling procedure includes registration, choice filling & locking, seat allocation, reporting to the allotted institute, and document verification.
Admission to IITs is strictly based on merit. There is no relaxation given to any category of candidates. Candidates who have qualified for JEE Advanced must participate in the counseling process conducted by JoSAA. Only those candidates who have been allotted a seat in JoSAA counseling will be considered for admission to IITs.
The document verification process includes the following documents:
The above-mentioned documents must be produced at the time of counseling for verification. Candidates who fail to do so will not be allowed to participate in the counseling process.
Candidates who have been allotted a seat in the JoSAA counseling must report to the institute and complete the admission formalities. The admission formalities include document verification and payment of tuition fees. After the completion of all formalities, candidates will be given a provisional admission letter by the institute.
Candidates who have been allotted a seat must then pay the tuition fee and confirm their admission.
Students who are allotted a seat in IIT but fail to pay the fee and confirm their admission within the given timeline will forfeit their seats. The tuition fee for IITs is Rs. 2,00,000 per annum for General & OBC candidates and Rs. 1,00,000 per annum for SC & ST candidates. Candidates belonging to the PwD category are exempted from paying the tuition fee.
Those who confirm the seat and then withdraw later will not be refunded the tuition fee. They will also be barred from participating in further rounds of counseling.
Students must keep in mind that clearing the JEE Advanced is just the first step to getting into an IIT. Candidates must also meet the cutoff score of the IIT they are applying to and go through the institute's counseling process. Only then will they be allotted a seat in their desired IIT.
