New Delhi: HR Ministry has decided to consolidate JEE Main and JEE Advanced into only one single-level Common Entrance Exam for all engineering colleges across India, including the IITs, from 2015. Common counseling for all government-funded engineering colleges will take place from this year itself!
Due to the two-tier JEE system which had made provisions for separate counseling for IITs and NITs (and other engineering colleges), 600 seats remained vacant. Students who had received offers from both IITs and NITs chose one and the other seat fell vacant. This happened due to the lack of sync between the two counseling processes.
While students are happy over the decision and think that they can now breathe easier, senior IIT officials are still wary of the decision. Worried over the quality of their student intake, they wonder if the new government to be elected this year may take a different view and overrule this decision.
